My Story
My name is Stephanie Luca, I am currently 25 years old and I was born and raised in Kamloops, British Columbia on the traditional and unceded territory of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc within Secwepemcúlucw. I am a self-proclaimed bookworm! I adore my family and friends and am very grateful for all the support they have shown me as I embark on my educational journey (more on that later). I love being outdoors, going on hikes, reading, writing, and listening to all different kinds of music. Lastly, I strive to be a positive member of my community and do my part in making this world a better place. This is what ultimately inspired me to find an internally rewarding career and embark on my journey to becoming a teacher. Below you will find some information about my journey in the field of education.

In regard to my education, I attended Parkcrest Elementary School, Brocklehurst Middle School, and NorKam Senior Secondary School before moving on to post secondary education at Thompson Rivers University. In 2021, I completed my Bachelors of Arts Degree in English and immediately applied to the Bachelor of Education to pursue my passion of teaching. I came to the realization that I wanted to become a teacher near the beginning of my post secondary education journey. Originally, I was studying journalism, but I soon discovered that I was not passionate about this career path, so I began taking other courses to expand my interests and discover what I was interested in pursuing. My experience at Thompson Rivers University inspired me to become passionate about education and choose a career path that would be internally rewarding for me. In my personal and work life, I began getting placed into leadership positions that I discovered I excelled at! I began noticing that I was well-respected and worked well with others in these positions. I also began to figure out what my dominant personality traits and interests were that allowed me to empathize with and understand those around me, and these all directed me towards teaching. Finally, I reached out to a former principal to ask for some volunteer hours in a classroom. The moment I stepped foot in a classroom to volunteer, I knew I found my career and that there was no turning back for me. As I embark on my teaching journey, I continue to learn, grow, and develop my skills so that I can become a strong teacher who strives to make a positive difference in the world.
